The North Star was the yacht of Cornelius Vanderbilt III, great grandson of the famous Commodore. The yacht was named in honor of the yacht Cornelius Vanderbilt Sr. owned. Vanderbilt primarily used the yacht as a retreat from his wife and he lived here until shortly before his death, at which time he sold it and moved to a much smaller one. Actually, the North Star was given to the British or Canadian governments in WW1. After the war, Neilly had a yacht named Winchester. Maybe more than one yacht after WWI.
