The Home That Started The Great Gatsby

It has long been thought that the splendid Land's End mansion, located on Long Island's North Shore, was thought to have been the inspiration for Fitzgerald's "Great Gatsby". The most prominent owner of the estate was Herbert Bayard Swope SR., who was it's fourth owner. His widow sold the estate after his death and from there it went downhill. The historic estate, which was said to be 100 years old, was demolished in 2011.
